CEMENT elebrations C 2021 Chieftain Award Lycoming had the distinct pleasure of naming Rachel Rubright ’21 as the recipient of the 2021 Chieftain Award during Honor’s Convocation held April 25. The Chieftain Award is the highest honor given to a graduating senior who has contributed the most to Lycoming through support of school activities, has exhibited utmost dedication and outstanding leadership qualities, has evidenced good moral character, and whose academic rank is above the median of the preceding senior class. Rubright, a religion and psychology double major, was a Lycoming Scholar and a scholar in the Haberberger Student Faculty Research program. She served as a research assistant for Michael Heyes, Ph.D., whom she accompanied to England for research and edited his book entitled “Margaret’s Monsters: Women, Identity and the Life of St. Margaret.” She is a member of Theta Alpha Kappa National Honor Society and Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society. Active in her campus community through Lycoming CRU and United Campus Ministries, she also served as a peer mentor and a spokesperson for the Green Dot Bystander Intervention Program. Additionally, she performed with the Lycoming Choir, Chamber Choir, Tour Choir, and Choral Scholars. The College extends its congratulations to the remaining outstanding nominees for the prestigious Chieftain Award: Colin Allen ’21, Sydney Fennington ’21, and Cara Zortman ’21. 2021 Senior Class Gift The COVID-19 pandemic required the College and its students to rethink how the campus operates and interacts as a community. As the Class of 2021 worked diligently with administrators to identify a project that would complement the campus in a meaningful way — not only for current students, but for future Warriors — it quickly became clear that they wanted to provide a space where the campus community can gather and socialize for years to come. The Class is pleased to announce their senior class gift will be an outdoor gathering space located on the northwest end of the Fultz Quad, above the Wertz Student Center and behind the Drum House. This new space will include a patio with a pavilion, seating, lighting, and a wood-burning firepit. In just a few short years, we have accomplished much on this campus. The Class of 2021 has become one of the most involved in Lycoming’s history, with students participating in sports, leading organizations, holding down jobs (sometimes more than one), and still excelling academically. Since hearing ‘Think Deeply. Act Boldly.’, the class of 2021 has been on a mission to prove they are prepared to do just that. - Jalen Williams '21 Miller, Rubright, and Trachte 13 www.lycoming.edu
