Stanley Sloter ’80 Awarded Honorary Doctorate Stanley Sloter ’80 has served Lycoming College as a member of the board of trustees since 2004 and as chair of the board from 2015 to 2021. Sloter came to Lycoming to major in chemistry and wrestle for Coach Budd Whitehill. After an internship at Merck & Co. Inc. provided clarity about his long-term interests, he embarked on a passion in real estate. He received his Masters of Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh with a focus in finance and shortly thereafter began his career with PNC Bank as a part of its Real Estate Group. Sloter founded Paradigm Companies, where he continues to serve as president. Under his leadership and vision, Paradigm has become one of the leading development, construction, and property management firms in the greater Washington, D.C., area, contributing significantly to the region’s skyline and transformation over the past 30 years. First in his immediate family to attend college, Sloter harnessed his work ethic and entrepreneurial instincts in central Pennsylvania to establish Paradigm as one of the nation’s leading real estate and economic development engines that annually builds more than $250 million in new construction projects. He and his wife, Jolene Hall ’80, believe strongly in the power of education and have invested significantly in Lycoming to ensure that all students have an opportunity to pursue a first rate education. As part of giving back to the College, the Paradigm internship program has enabled hundreds of Lycoming students to gain invaluable practical experiences working in real estate and property management in the D.C. Metro area. COVID-19 strengthened your character, your sense of social responsibility, and your willingness to take care of others. You now graduate having developed an enhanced understanding of socially responsible behaviors and you have honed stronger critical thinking skills. … The pandemic made you focused, committed, and determined. You gave new meaning to the adjective ‘resilient.’ ... As your president, I had faith in you before, but I have an even deeper faith in you now. I am deeply grateful to the Class of 2021. - President Trachte Stan and Joey Sloter 14 LYCOMING COLLEGE 2021 SUMMER MAGAZINE
