hen Anne Fisher ’81 met Andy Deufel Rogers ’81 in the eighth grade, the two quickly became the best of friends. They attended junior and senior high school together and continued on to Lycoming College as roommates. Andy was a lifelong athlete and Lycoming’s first female swimmer in 1977, enlisting other women to participate on the swim team. Her love for swimming continued as a committed U.S. Masters swimming athlete. Anne describes Andy as a person with a strong discipline and constitution who was steadfast in her friendships. “Andy had a far-reaching strength to her, as a friend, a mother, a professional. She always accomplished that which she endeavored to accomplish,” recalls Anne. “It was the same brave approach she brought to her fight against cancer. She loved hard and she fought hard. Always an amazing friend, always with a smile and a great sense of humor, Andy will be remembered for her unconditional love and fight.” Devastated by Andy’s passing in 2023, Anne chose to honor her beloved friend of 50 years by establishing the Andy Deufel Rogers ’81 Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund later that year. “This scholarship will afford young women an opportunity to find ways to lead and thrive at Lycoming just as Andy did.” Inspired by the philanthropic initiative to honor her friend, Anne decided to endow her own scholarship. The Anne Leslie Fisher Endowed Scholarship Fund aims to help young women discover their entrepreneurial skillset early in their lives and to take advantage of what Lycoming has to offer to educate and enlighten them. A member of the fourth generation and first woman in the family business, Fisher & Son Company Inc., Anne believes that being able to incorporate a solid foundation of applied business principles with the abstractions of one’s own creativity, ingenuity, and people skills are cornerstones of success in business. Fostering support for female students to excel at Lycoming College and beyond is at the heart of these two endowments, and such support evolved from a profound bond. “I have been gifted with a lifetime of friendship, and I am so incredibly grateful for the joy that Andy has brought to my life. To make a gift in her memory is but a small way to express my immense gratitude for her love and encouragement through the years and to continue her legacy of encouraging others to do great things.” To learn more about including Lycoming College in your estate planning, contact Robb Dietrich, assistant vice president for major and planned gifts, at dietrich@lycoming.edu or 570-321-4401.
