98 Brian McNoldy was recently named Miami’s best meteorologist for 2022. If you’ve spent any amount of time in Miami during hurricane season, chances are you’ve heard or seen the name Brian McNoldy. A senior research associate at the University of Miami who studies hurricanes, climatology, and sea-level rise, McNoldy is Miami’s de facto hurricane expert, long relied upon by the press and public for insight in the face of oncoming tropical storms. His fascination with weather began at age seven with the Megapolitan Blizzard of 1983, and since the late ’90s, he has maintained a Blogspot site, Tropical Atlantic Update, where he provides context-rich updates in a digestible and engaging way. He’s perhaps best known for regularly sharing interesting climatology facts and keeping Miamians updated on the weather via Twitter @BMcNoldy. 99 Amanda (Morgan) Frank was promoted to the chief of organizational performance improvement section at the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in May 2022. Lauren Lawson-Zilai has been named senior director, media and public relations at Shatterproof, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to reversing the addiction crisis in the U.S. She joins the organization in a new position to develop and implement a national communications and media strategy to advance public awareness of the organization and position key leadership as thought leaders. In this role, she will help break down the stigma of addiction and ensure families are connected to life-saving resources. Shatterproof harnesses the models of business, the rigor of science, and the power of a national movement to create change and save lives through three pillars of work: revolutionizing the addiction treatment system, breaking down addiction-related stigmas, and supporting and empowering communities. 01 Shawn Jayman has been an attorney with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for sixteen years. During that time, he was counsel to the Department of Labor and Industry and Driver and Vehicle Services Division of the Department of Transportation. Recently, he has decided to take a new opportunity with the Department of State, Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs. In his new position, he will be counsel to the State Board of Funeral Directors, the State Board of Optometry, and co-counsel to the State Real Estate Commission. 03 Thomas Coale has been hired as a part-time talk show radio host for WBAL News Radio 1090 AM/101.5 FM in Baltimore, Md. Tom’s show is broadcast every Saturday from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and is also available streaming via WBAL.com. In August 2022, Karen (Costello) Kennedy completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice with highest honors from Chamberlain University. She is currently practicing as a surgical oncology nurse practitioner in New York. Nathan Tatro recently accepted a new position as vice president of alliance development at Mental Health America in Alexandria, Va., where he will use his 12 years of healthcare policy and advocacy experience to form national partnerships in support of patients. Previously, he worked at the American Psychiatric Association and the American Psychological Association. 05 Erin Karschner was recently awarded the Best Bulletin Paper Award for 2021 by the International Association of Forensic Toxicologists (TIAFT) for her article entitled, “Delta Dawn: The Rise of Delta-8-THC in the United States.” The TIAFT Bulletin is published quarterly and showcases new research and reports from forensic toxicologists across the world. Dr. Karschner is currently a board-certified forensic toxicologist at the Armed Forces Medical Examiner System at Dover Air Force Base, Del. 06 David McElwee was ordained an elder in the United Methodist Church. He has been appointed to serve as pastor at the West Side United Methodist Church in Clearfield, Pa. Sherri (Hirschmann) McNiff and Cassie Cure attended fellow roommate Terica (Prater) Dorsey’s wedding on March 26, 2022, in Savage, Md. 07 Nicholas Nastasi finished his second master’s program (administrative program for principal certification) at California University of Pennsylvania during the summer of 2021. After 15 years in the classroom, beginning with the 2022-23 school year, Nicholas will assume the roles of athletic director and instructional coach (grades 7-12) at Greenwood Middle/High School in Millerstown, Pa. 10 Holly Andrews successfully defended her thesis and graduated with her MFA in creative producing from Columbia University’s School of the Arts in May 2022. Her thesis film, “Nobody Skates Except For Me,” premiered on May 7, 2022, at the Columbia University Film Festival in New York City. During her time at Columbia, Holly served as a teacher’s assistant in Intellectual Property Transactional Practice: Counseling, Negotiating, and Drafting class, served as a student veteran intern for Arits in the Armed Forces, worked on set as the director’s assistant for the A24 Films-backed project “The Inspection,” and as the personal assistant to award-winning documentarian Kirsten Johnson (“Cameraperson” and “Dick Johnson is Dead”). 39 www.lycoming.edu
