58 On April 30, 2022, Noel Faddis received the UTHL Order of Merit Award from the Under The Hill League (UTHL) at the Roger Scott Tennis Center in Pensacola, Fla. The UTHL, a competitive league for men over 50 and one of the most prominent leagues in the region, recognized Noel’s lifelong commitment to excellence in the mentoring, stewardship, and passion of the sport of tennis over the decades. The award was presented by Robin Olsson ’76, league director. Noel, 86, spends time with his wife, Joanne, between their Gulf Breeze, Fla., and Whittier, N.C., homes and can be found on the golf course more often than not. Noel Faddis and Robin Olsson 64 Patricia (Gortner) Dietrich received the AAUW Indiana PA Notable Woman of the Year Award for her volunteerism in numerous volunteer activities in Indiana. 69 Bill Miller is happily retired from academic psychology but still enjoys writing books. His most recent is “On Second Thought: How Ambivalence Shapes Your Life” (2022). 70 Double gold medal MAC winner in swimming, Chuck Wells, has established swim lesson scholarships in Phoenix, Ariz. “Many people have pools here in Arizona, and young children are dying almost daily from drowning. As a former lifeguard and Lycoming swimmer, if I can save just one of these children, it will be worth it.” Chuck was a high school German teacher after graduating from Lycoming and went on to start an insurance agency, became a police officer and executive bodyguard, newspaper columnist, and now owner of a Mosquito Squad franchise in Arizona. He is also a recent cancer survivor. “At age 74, I’m also back into competitive swimming with the Masters Swimming program. It’s not as competitive as Lycoming because there aren’t many guys older than I! The hard part was getting back into that Speedo.” 73 Betsy (Johnson) Checchia has been named vice chair of the U.S. Hunter Jumper Association (USHJA) Zone 8 Committee.
