Community Arts Center and Penn College to use that space as a performance venue for a number of annual performances. Area music groups that do not have access to a rehearsal space will have the opportunity to utilize the new music facility on campus. The versatility of the space will create a much needed venue in this region and will allow the music department to host music festivals within the community. Gunderson adds, “The music department looks forward to inviting high school students for recruiting events, honors groups, and community collaborative projects.” “I am thrilled that we are building a wonderful musical home for our students and faculty, and in that spirit of hospitality, we enthusiastically look forward to welcoming the region through various recruiting activities and festivals. I am deeply grateful for the value placed on our musical traditions here at Lycoming College,” says Daniel Hall, D.M.A., assistant professor of music. In support of the construction of this new music facility, Lycoming received a $500,000 Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) grant. The location of the building will enhance the overall investment to the new gateway to the College and the continued revitalization of the East End of Williamsport. Lycoming extends its gratitude to local legislators and in particular Sen. Gene Yaw ’70 for his advocacy and support in assisting the College with receiving the RACP funds. In April 2021, demolition of three structures adjacent to the Mary Lindsay Welch Honors Hall was completed, clearing the area for construction. A groundbreaking for the new music facility is slated for Summer 2021. 18 LYCOMING COLLEGE 2021 SUMMER MAGAZINE
