NEWS FACULTY & STAFF The film “Under the Walnut Tree” by Leah Bedrosian Peterson , associate professor of film and video arts, continues to gain international recognition. One of only 19 films chosen as an Official Selection at the Armenian Film Festival in Australia, it was screened in Sydney and Melbourne this past fall. The film was part of the 38th annual travelling Thomas Edison Black Maria Film Festival at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Fond du Lac Campus Prairie Theater. Additionally, the film was selected as part of the prestigious 5th annual Armenians in Film at Lincoln Center: 6 Short Films by Armenian Filmmakers in New York City which featured short films by filmmakers whose works have been screened at some of the most prestigious film festivals in the world. The Boy Scouts of America Susquehanna Council honored President Kent Trachte, Ph.D. , with the 2019 Distinguished Citizen Award for his substantial impact on the community. The award is given annually to members of the community for outstanding service to the area. A presentation and reception were held on Nov. 6, 2019, in the Krapf Gateway Center, Trogner Presentation Room. Christopher Kulp, Ph.D. , professor of physics, and Michael Kurtz, Ph.D. , assistant professor of economics, co-authored an article published in the journal Chaos: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Nonlinear Science . “The Effect of Various Tax and Redistribution Models on the Gini coefficient of Simple Exchange Games” exam- ines how the distribution of wealth is affected by tax and redistribution strategies. The two spent several years working through different scenarios as the project evolved, enlisting a number of students to participate along the way. Recent work by Andreas Rentsch , assistant professor of art, has been exhibited at the Musée McCord in Montreal and the MIT Museum in Cambridge, Mass., as part of the traveling exhibition “The Polaroid Project.” He presented a paper entitled “Medium Specificity in the Contemporary Discourse” at the Society for Photographic Education (SPE) in Lancaster, Pa., and one of his works was exhibited in a show comprised of SPE members at the Demuth Museum. A photograph from his “Wanderer” series was displayed at the Heckscher Museum of Art in Huntington, N.Y. The show called Locally Sourced: Collecting Long Island Artists exhibits works from the permanent collection.
