Cullen Chandler, Ph.D. , professor of history, has published an essay, “Agobard and Adoptionism: A Controversy Continues,” in Lyon dans l’Europe carolingienne: Autour d’Agobard (816-840) , edited by François Bougard, Alexis Charansonnet, and Marie-Céline Isaïa and published by Brepols Publishers in Belgium. The volume is the result of a conference held in Lyon, France, in the fall of 2016 to observe the 1200th anniversary of the feisty figure Agobard becoming bishop of Lyon. Chandler was one of only two Americans invited to participate in the conference and volume. The poem “Palm/Psalm” by Sascha Feinstein, Ph.D. , professor of creative writing, was featured in American Literary Review . A villanelle titled “A Simple Question” appeared in Green Mountains Review , and his poems “Damp Wood” and “Wasps” were included in Solstice: A Magazine of Diverse Voices . The poetry project/ publication Poems2Go reprinted “The Taj,” and the anthology Turn It Up! Music in Poetry from Jazz to Hip-Hop will reprint “ Coltrane, Coltrane,” “Sonnets for Stan Gage (1945–1992),” “Blues Villanelle for Sonny Criss,” “Christmas Eve,” and a series of ten sonnets titled “Everything Happens to Me, 1965.” For Jazziz magazine, Feinstein published reviews of several CDs, including his Best of 2019. Poetry Criticism: Michael Harper , an anthology due out this spring, has asked to reprint Feinstein’s conversation titled “So Hard to Live in the World: An Interview with Michael S. Harper,” which first appeared in Brilliant Corners . He has also written the preface for another forthcoming book, You Made Me , a bilingual collection of poetry by Pulitzer Prize- winning author Yusef Komunyakaa. David G. Fisher, Ph.D. , professor of astronomy and physics, joined a panel assembled by WITF, a public FM radio station serving Harrisburg, at the North Museum of Nature and Science in Lancaster, Pa., on July 16, 2019, for a podcast remembering the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 lunar landing mission. He returned to the museum a few days later for a guest planetarium lecture on Apollo 11, the origin of the Space Age, and the future of human exploration beyond Earth. Fisher also served as editor for the three-volume set USA in Space (4th edition), a collection of articles submitted by aerospace historians covering the entirety of the history of American space flight, encompassing both crewed and robotic missions. Sandra Kingery, Ph.D. , Logan A. Richmond Professor, published an article entitled “Translating Spanglish to Spanish: The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao” in Translation Review . “The Temple of Poseidon,” “Delphi,” “The Whims of Light,” and “With Its Streets of Marble,” four microfictions from Xánath Caraza’s book It Pierces the Skin , which was translated by students in her Spanish 335 course in Spring 2019, were published in a trilingual journal in Greece. 30 LYCOMING COLLEGE 2020 SPRING MAGAZINE
