NEWS FACULTY & STAFF Robert Smith, Ph.D. , assistant professor of biology and research associate with the College’s Clean Water Institute, was awarded a $25,550 grant from the National Science Foundation to support the Fifth Symposium on Urbanization and Stream Ecology, for which he is a co-organizer and a member of the advisory board. Christopher Pearl, Ph.D. , associate professor of history and co-coordinator of American studies, has earned a fellowship from the Robert H. Smith International Center for Jefferson Studies at Monticello, enabling him to conduct research for his upcoming book about the creation of executive power during the American Revolutionary War. He also has been named the inaugural resident research fellow at the American Philosophical Society’s The David Center for the American Revolution. Andreas Rentsch , assistant professor of art, was part of a juried exhibition at Candela Gallery in Richmond, Va., which showcased a diptych from his latest series, “The Chair.” Amy Rogers ’92, Ph.D. , chair and associate professor of education, had an article published, “Scholarship Re- reconsidered: An Alternative Approach to Scholarship for Professors of Education and Applied Disciplines,” in the fall 2019 issue of Journal of the Professoriate . She and three colleagues closely examined Earnest Boyers’ categories of scholarship and reconceptualized working criteria for professional achievement in the education field. Mallory Weymer was appointed assistant dean of first-year students in May 2020. Biliana Stoytcheva-Horissian, Ph.D. , chair and associate professor of theatre, presented an invited acting workshop entitled “Great Transitions = Confident Auditions” at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, Region 2 Conference at The University of Maryland, College Park. 21 www.lycoming.edu
