C L A S S NOT E S CELEBRATING 63 Richard Creveling and his wife, Kay, celebrated their 50 th wedding anniversary Aug. 18, 2018. Their son and his family arranged a weekend of celebration for loved ones that included a dinner at Le Jeune Chef and a reception at the Creveling home. Following the weekend, Dick and Kay enjoyed a river cruise in southern France. 65 Dave Fortin organized and held a large reunion for Montoursville Area High School wrestlers at Johnson’s Café on June 10, 2018. Dave organized the gathering of more than 50 former grapplers and made sure to note the connection between the local high school’s wrestling program and Lycoming’s storied program. Dave, who coached 17 district champions, 18 state qualifiers, ten wrestlers who placed at states, and four state champions, noted during the luncheon that every state qualifier at the Lycoming County high school was coached by a Lycoming graduate or former assistant wrestling coach, with David Johnson ’70, Mike Millward, Jack White, Dan Wright ’74, Jamie Yonkin ’99, and Matt Yonkin ’97 all serving on coaching staffs at the school as either the head or assistant coach. Montoursville has produced nine state champions, all of whom were coached by someone with ties to the Lycoming wrestling program. 66 A gathering of alumni at Carolina Opry in Myrtle Beach, S.C. included Lois (Loncoske) ’66 and David Shoemaker ’66 , Louise (Gossler) ’65 and Paul ’66 Henry , Lucy (Dersham) Fesler ’65 , Karen (Dohrmann) Gibson ’65 , Leona (Glenn) Foore ’65 , and Gail (Kleintob) Whitebread ’65 . 67 Martha (Fellers) Barkley shares that she retired to Charleston, S.C., in 1997 after 30 years teaching first through fifth grades in the Maryland public schools from 1967-97. She has since pursued her continued love of reading and writing, and many of her essays, letters, and book reviews have been published in various publications such as The Post & Courier , The Washington Post Sunday - Book World This Week , Bangor Daily News , The Boston Globe - Sunday , The Christian Science Monitor , Summertime in the Belgrades , and Smithsonian Magazine . This past fall, Martha and her husband, Frank, celebrated his 81 st birthday in the Netherlands before boarding a Holland America Line cruise that toured Amsterdam, the Iberian Peninsula, Italy, Croatia, Montenegro, the Greek Isles, Athens, Naples, and Rome. 70 For over 30 years, Emily Sopensky has been active with IEEE, the world’s largest technical professional organization for the advancement of technology. With more than 430,000 members, IEEE standards, publications, and conferences are driving forces in today’s technologies. Of the 46 technical societies, Emily has had a hand in forming two — the Intelligent Transportation Systems Society and the Council of RFID. Because of her tireless efforts with IEEE, she was recently inducted into its Hall of Honor which has only 13 other members. Additionally, Emily, along with photographer Scott Angus, co-authored “Snake Medicine,” a photographic survey of selected sacred earth sites in the U.S. As a board member of a nonprofit assisting families with a member suffering from a chronic illness, she was introduced to the beautiful, spiritual, and haunting environs of northern New Mexico. Her love of the southwest open spaces led to her working with Scott on volume 1 of Sacred Earth Sites, now available on Amazon.com. “Photographing Ancient Connections in the British Isles: Sacred Earth Sites Volume 2,” available at the end of 2019, is about the megaliths and standing stones of the British Isles, including Stonehenge. 73 Bob Howden has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Asbury Woods Partnership, Erie, Pa. The Partnership is the governing body that oversees the operations, educational programming, and recreational experiences at the 205-acre Asbury Woods nature preserve, which includes native species, old-growth forests, landscaped gardens, wetlands, boardwalk trails, and dirt trails.
