Mary Morrison, Ph.D. , assistant professor and chair of the biology department, was elected as the next president of the Faculty for Undergraduate Neuroscience (FUN), an organization dedicated to developing and enhancing undergraduate education in neuroscience. She will serve as president-elect for one year, president for the second year, and past president for a third year, during which she will work diligently on raising funds for and distributing travel awards to undergraduates and leading elections for the following year’s officers. She will also collaborate on a strategic planning process to guide FUN into the next decade. Peter Petokas, Ph.D. , research associate with Lycoming’s Clean Water Institute, and Michelle Herman ’14 are featured in a film short released by the Chesapeake Bay Program (https://vimeo. com/296486691). The film highlights their work with restoring Eastern Hellbender populations in the upper Susquehanna River watershed. NEWS FACULTY & STAFF The work of Andreas Rentsch , assistant professor of art, was recently exhibited at C/O Berlin in Berlin, Germany, as part of a worldwide traveling group show, The Polaroid Project, which showcased the various ways artists have used Polaroid film in their artwork. As Lycoming has grown and changed over the years, one thing has remained the same: our faculty commitment to mentoring students. The Chronicle of Higher Education featured an article, “For Mentorships to Work, Colleges Have to Commit,” which included the outstanding research and translation collaborations of Sarah Silkey, Ph.D. , associate professor and chair of the history department, with Jacob Quasius ’18, and Sandra Kingery, Ph.D. , Logan A. Richmond Professor, with Kaitlyn Hipple ’18. “Faulkner & Hemingway,” a book co-edited by Andy Leiter, Ph.D. , professor of English, and Christopher Rieger, was published by Southeast Missouri State University Press and the Center for Faulkner Studies. The volume features the selected proceedings of the Faulkner and Hemingway Conference (October 2016) and includes Leiter’s essay, “Rotten Logs and Mud Holes: Bildungsroman , Sex, and the Other in Faulkner and Hemingway.” In August 2018, Kacy Hagan was appointed director of human resources and risk management at Lycoming. In this role, she will lead the department of human resources, including all recruitment and staffing, benefits and compensation administration, payroll, database management, recordkeeping retention and file maintenance, performance management, legal and regulatory compliance, policy and procedure development, employee training and development, and employee relations. Mallory Weymer was appointed the new director of civic engagement and personal development in November 2018. In this new position, she will play a key role in the facilitation of meaningful community interactions for Lycoming students. 31 www.lycoming.edu
