2019 FALL LYCOMING COLLEGE MAGAZINE

Lycoming College received a five-year, $1 million grant from the Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program administered by the National Science Foundation. Lycoming’s project — Preparing Leaders in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Education for High-Need Populations — recruits undergraduate majors in biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics and prepares them to become 7th-12th grade teachers in high-need school districts. Noyce Scholars receive tuition scholarships and summer research stipends and commit to teaching for at least two years in high-need school districts following graduation. I can honestly say that Miss Adams is one of the best student teachers that I’ve had the privilege of mentoring. Her instructional planning was very evident, as she always arrived prepared for the day’s activities. She willingly gave up her free planning time and even lunch time to help students who required a little additional help or who needed a bit of encouragement. Our students felt as if she genuinely cared about them, both academically and as a person. I definitely feel that her educational training at Lycoming prepared her for her student teaching and she will grow to become a very fine professional teacher, as she is well on her way!
