Inspired by older images of Burchfield Lounge, which boasted an impressive stone wall and a roaring fireplace, the Class of 2017 chose to renovate the lounge as their legacy gift to the College. The seniors surpassed their goal of raising $15,000, eliciting 51 percent participation among their peers. Their vision of exposing the stone wall and installing a natural gas fireplace was fulfilled in January 2018, transforming the lounge into an even more welcoming space for members of the Lycoming community to gather. Camille (Burchfield) Metzger ’42 added her support to the project in an effort to continue the legacy of her parents, for whom the lounge is named. A reclaimed wooden beam mantle was recently installed above the fireplace, made possible by a generous donation from Molly Costello, former director of college relations. The completion of the project would not have been possible without the support of Lycoming College administration, students, alumni, and friends. Burchfield Lounge today
