23 PHYSICS (7-12) Students seeking certification to teach physics should, as soon as possible, consult the education department faculty and make their intentions known to their physics department advisor so all requirements can be met before the Professional Student Teaching Semester. Please work closely with your physics advisor and your education advisor to ensure that all required courses in both areas are completed. Course Requirements: Successful completion of a major in physics – see college catalog for specific requirements including the appropriate Science Seminar. Education Program Core Courses: EEDUC 215 and 225 (each 2 credits and taken in the same semester) EDUC 348 (non-credit: taken the semester prior to student teaching; $525 lab fee) SPLED 230 and 334 PSY 110 and 120 ENGL 106 or 107 and an ENGL literature At least 6 credits of MATH numbered 101 or above. Specific Certification Area Courses: Secondary Certification Grades 7-12 EDUC 339 (fall only) EDUC 338 (spring only) Major area courses, including PHYS 000 The Professional Semester (16 Credits) EDUC 461 Methods of Classroom Management (1 credit) EDUC 462 Principles and Applications of PK–12 Assessment (1 credit) EDUC 465 Professional Semester of Student Teaching (8 credits) SPLED 447 Professional Development for the Inclusive Setting (6 credits)
