19 BIOLOGY (7-12) Students seeking certification to teach in Biology should, as early as possible, consult with the Education department faculty and make their intentions known to their Biology Department advisor so all requirements can be met before the Professional Student Teaching Semester. Please work closely with your Biology advisor and your Education advisor to ensure that all required courses in both areas are completed. Course Requirements: Successful completion of the Comprehensive Track within the Biology major – see college catalog for specific requirements for a BA or BS in Biology. *It is highly recommended that candidates for education certification pursue the BA degree in biology, rather than the BS. The BA allows for greater flexibility with respect to scheduling coursework from both biology and education. Education Program Core Courses: EDUC 215 and 225 (each 2 credits and taken in the same semester) EDUC 348 (non-credit: taken the semester prior to student teaching; $525 lab fee) SPLED 230 and 334 PSY 110 and 120 ENGL 106 or 107 and an ENGL literature At least 6 credits of MATH numbered 101 or above.
