2026 SPRING LYCOMING MAGAZINE

Lycoming College is proud to introduce its long-awaited inaugural standalone athletic director, Glenn Smith II ’07, whose appointment follows an extensive national search and marks an exciting new chapter for Warrior athletics. A distinguished alumnus of the College and its football program — shaped by his experience playing for legendary Coach Frank Girardi — Smith brings a deep appreciation for the transformative, holistic power of a first-rate Division III studentathlete experience. He is eager to energize and elevate the department as it advances excellence in admission, retention, academics, and competition. “It is with great excitement that I introduce Glenn in this role. His strong leadership vision, innovative mindset, and deep appreciation for the student-athlete experience perfectly align with what is needed to shape the future of our athletics program,” said Suzanne O’Driscoll, vice president for student affairs and success. Smith has long been a guiding presence in Lycoming’s Warrior community. He comes to this role after serving the past 11 years as Lycoming’s director of athletics development and Warrior Club, and assistant director of major gifts. As director of athletics, he will take on responsibility for providing strategic leadership and oversight to all of Lycoming’s intercollegiate athletics programs as an NCAA Division III institution, with an emphasis on the recruitment and development of student-athletes, compliance with NCAA regulations, Title IX, strategic oversight of coaches and programs, fundraising initiatives, and working with the student affairs team to integrate athletics into the broader campus community. Smith, a former Division III student-athlete, was the starting quarterback and captain of Lycoming’s football team and garnered numerous awards. He graduated in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, and in 2013, he earned a master’s degree in business administration from Liberty University. “I am grateful to College leadership for their vision and commitment to investing in this dedicated role,” said Smith. “It is an honor to serve my alma mater and help advance the athletics experience for current and future Warriors.
