2020 LYCOMING COLLEGE SPRING MAGAZINE

ALUMNI STUDENT-ATHLETES Banking, teaching, construction, medicine, coaching — the list of varied career fields is unlimited. What do they all have in common? Lycoming College alumni student-athletes. Their Lycoming experiences helped shape them, and they attribute the skills and habits acquired both on and off the field to their successes. Here are just a few stories from our alumni who are winning at life beyond Lycoming. Scoring on and off the field KIERAN MCLAUGHLIN ’15 (Lacrosse; Business Administration major, Political Science minor) Principal, Valley Forge Financial Group Inc. “Relationships with teammates and coaching staff while at Lycoming provided access to invaluable mentorship, a tremendous system of support, and lifelong friendships. The additional layer of accountability — one’s commitment to teammates and coaches — requires discipline, organizational skill, and composure under pressure. Those relationships and ‘forced’ habits were extremely beneficial to my athletic, academic, and personal growth. My athletic experience served as a meaningful differentiator during the hiring process, expanded my professional and personal networks (including many lifelong friendships), and drove the formation of habits and skills, and a general modus operandi, that have been incredibly advantageous in the workplace and beyond. In short, the impact of my Lycoming experience — both academic and athletic, as a member of the men’s lacrosse team under Coach Scanlon — has been overwhelmingly positive after college, professionally and personally.” 16 LYCOMING COLLEGE 2020 SPRING MAGAZINE
