Lycoming College Athletics History TIMELINE Ω Dickinson Seminary forms a baseball team and accepts a challenge from Pott’s Business College, winning its first game, 17-6. ˜ Dickinson Seminary groups together a football team and an athletic field is laid out on the school’s quad. Basketball, invented just 15 years before in Springfield, Mass., becomes a new passion for students at Dickinson Seminary. u The men’s basketball team at Dickinson Seminary enjoys the program’s only undefeated season under the guidance of Howard Robbins. a Mary Helen Baker wins one of the first all-girls tennis tournaments in school history. f M. Ross “Cardy” Swartz begins a six-year tenure as the athletic director and coach for football, men’s basketball, and baseball. g Hilltop Gymnasium opens.
