Andrea Seuren ’76: Making a Difference During a trip to Lycoming College in April 2016, Andrea Seuren ’76 was fortunate to visit with Payne at Alabaster for a cup of coffee. “That cup of coffee and conversation found that we both have a passion for service to others,” says Seuren. “Dr. Payne’s commitment to the Warrior Coffee Project and her enthusiasm was contagious, and I was hooked.” In 2007, Seuren established the Seuren Leadership Speaker Series in memory of her parents, Walt and Peg Seuren, with the intention of building a culture of leadership that espouses service, ethics, and critical thinking that will shape Lycoming students throughout their lives. The Seuren Leadership Speaker Series is now part of the Seuren Endowed Fund which also supports the Warrior Coffee Project as an enhanced academic experience program component. “I believe that life is about giving back — service in any capacity. It makes us a stronger, better society. The Warrior Coffee Project is service personified. Any project needs leaders and critical thinkers, and this project has both. It started as a seed that was planted by Dr. Payne, it continues to be cultivated by many students and professors, and it will continue to grow through their commitment and hard work and by financial support,” comments Seuren. “This project impacts lives for students at Lycoming by gaining hands-on experiences and understanding a different culture, and by assisting coffee growers and their families in the Dominican Republic — all because of service!” “Andrea’s generosity has allowed us to grow the Warrior Coffee Project in a number of notable ways over the past few years, particularly with the launch of a fellowship program that gives us the ability to be present in the communities of the El Naranjito region year-round. This presence is central to building trust and ensuring the success of our program,” says Payne. “Most importantly, however, is that Andrea truly believes in what we are doing. She has a passion for service to others and is helping to instill that value in our students.” Seuren is recently retired from her position as vice president of product management and underwriting audit at Global Indemnity Group Inc. She plans to consult, support MoorArts (a nonprofit organization that advocates for the arts in her community), and enjoy the next chapter in her life. She earned her bachelor’s in music, was a member of the Tour Choir, and participated in the 1974 England Choir Tour. She is a former member of Lycoming’s Alumni Association Executive Board and currently serves on the President’s Leadership Council. Alabaster roasts and packages Warrior Coffee.
