LYCOMING STUDENT, FACULTY MEMBER COLLABORATE ON CURRICULUM GUIDE FOR WATERDALE ENVIRONMENTAL CENTER On Jan. 24, 2019, Lycoming senior biology major Brandan Gracia ’19 and Amy Rogers, Ph.D., associate professor of education, presented their curriculum guide for the Waterdale Environmental Education Center at the BLaST IU17 Curriculum Council from schools in Bradford, Lycoming, Sullivan, and Tioga counties. Located in the beautiful mountain valley of the Mosquito Creek Watershed in Williamsport, the Waterdale Environmental Education Center offers an educational outreach program that emphasizes the importance of watersheds and the role they serve in producing clean water that protects the public health of communities. The curriculum guide reinforces the ecological instruction offered at the facility through lesson plans, projects, and other activities that support the education of elementary to high school students. Meaningful, hands-on experiences promote awareness of the science of watersheds and connections to water quality and local ecology using Pennsylvania Academic and Core standards. “Lycoming offered me the opportunity to study and exercise cross-curricular learning, providing the perfect combination of biology and education,” explained Gracia, a Haberberger Fellow. He was able to present his research conducted through the College’s Clean Water Institute at the 13th Susquehanna River Symposium. LYCOMING SECURES $720,000 GRANT FROM STABLER FOUNDATION Dozens of high-promise students will earn a 21st-century liberal arts and sciences education at Lycoming in preparation for meaningful lives and careers thanks to a grant from the Donald B. and Dorothy L. Stabler Foundation. The foundation has awarded its seventh consecutive grant to Lycoming, this time in the amount of $720,000, bringing its total giving to the College to $4.22 million. With generous gifts such as this grant, Lycoming is able to bolster its financial aid offerings and fine-tune admittance practices, more selectively choosing talented students who best fit with the mission of the College, regardless of financial need. “Our ability to continue to offer these prestigious Stabler scholarships at Lycoming College has helped us attract even more talented students to our campus,” said Chip Edmonds, executive vice president. “Lycoming remains extraordinarily grateful for the Donald B. and Dorothy L.
