NEWS FACULTY & STAFF Lycoming College is pleased to announce that the board of trustees approved the following faculty promotions, affirming the value of their commitment to teaching students, advancing scholarly and professional work, and participating in the College’s system of shared governance. Within the history department, Christopher Pearl, Ph.D. , received tenure with promotion to the rank of associate professor, while Cullen Chandler, Ph.D. , and Sarah Silkey, Ph.D. , both were promoted to the rank of professor. Mary Broussard , instructional services librarian and coordinator of reference and web services, was promoted to the rank of professor as well. Jeremy Ramsey, Ph.D. , assistant professor of chemistry and chair of the department, is the recipient of the 2019 Plankenhorn Alumni Award for Faculty Excellence, bestowed upon a senior faculty member for faculty excellence. New York’s Gallery North exhibited four series by Andreas Rentsch , assistant professor of art, including “Chasm,” a body of work that he started in 2017. Rentsch’s portfolio also was shown at the Association of International Photography Art Dealers (AIPAD), considered one of the most important photo art fairs in the world, at Pier 94 in New York City in April 2019. Robert Smith, Ph.D. , assistant professor of biology, was elected to serve a two-year term as the chair of the Mid- Atlantic Chapter of the Society for Freshwater Science. In this role, he will work to organize a regional academic meeting and provide opportunities for training related to regional issues in freshwater science and conservation. He was also selected to participate in the Quantitative Undergraduate Biology Education and Synthesis (QUEBES) Faculty Mentoring Network for “Reducing Barriers to Teaching with R in Undergraduate Biology.” In January 2019, Biliana Stoytcheva- Horissian, Ph.D. , chair and associate professor of acting, directing, and musical theatre, presented an acting and directing workshop entitled “The Key to Successful Performance and Directing of Classical Comedies” at the 51st Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival, a national theater program in eight geographic regions in the United States. Sandra Kingery, Ph.D. , Logan A. Richmond Professor, published her translation of Daniel Innerarity’s “Politics in the Times of Indignation: The Crisis of Representative Democracy” with Bloomsbury Publishing. Her translation of Xánath Caraza’s “Without Preamble” was republished in a trilingual edition (Spanish, English, Romanian) in Romania: “Fără Preambul.” Kingery also published her translation of Xánath Caraza’s “Balamkú” with Pandora Lobo Estepario.
