2019 FALL LYCOMING COLLEGE MAGAZINE
TOUR CHOIR SAID “BONJOUR!” TO NEW SITES AND EXPERIENCES More than 60 years ago, the Lycoming College Tour Choir ventured across the ocean for the first time in the College’s history — the European Tour of 1957. Today’s Tour Choir embarked on its cultural journey to France in May 2019. Throughout the two-week trip, students performed music in concert halls and churches and engaged in cultural exchanges with local students and professional musicians who provided an international perspective of music and its effects on history and culture. The ultimate goal of the Choral Scholars Program and Tour Choir is to broaden and enrich the lives of the participants through musical performance and exchange. Their trip began with a tour of Paris and recital in the Eglise de la Trinité, followed by concerts in Eglise de la Madeleine, a joint concert in Sancé with local choir “Scherzo,” a joint concert in Cahors with local choir “Echos de la Bouriane,” Choeur d’Alzonne, and a joint concert with the “Carpe Diem” choir in Fuveau. The group also enjoyed a boat trip on the Seine River, guided tours of the Palais du Papes and Pont d’Avignon, and a full day excursion to Aix en Provence. The trip was led by Daniel Hall, Ph.D., assistant professor of music, who commented, “Travel alone is profound enough, but travel and music in combination are life-changing.” The Tour Choir would again like to thank the alumni, parents, and friends who gifted more than $25,000 to support this enhanced learning experience.
