NAM DO ’18 WINS INTERNATIONAL ADVERTISING COMPETITION Lycoming College commercial design major, Nam Do ’18, won the 2018 Young Globals Student Competition, an international student advertising competition sponsored by New York Festivals International. The Globals award invites students from the world’s top portfolio, design, and technology schools to build a career in the advertising industry and help agencies transform healthcare advertising. In conjunction with The Partnership for Drug- Free Kids, “Pushing Back on Opioids” was chosen as the theme for this year’s challenge. Do’s winning design, The Opioid Gang, caught the attention of the judges for its originality and appeal to the target audience. He is the first single-person team to win the competition, and his prize includes a summer internship at advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi Wellness in New York City this summer. A Vietnamese international student, Do came to the United States in 2014 to pursue an education at Lycoming that would allow him to explore passions and broaden his horizon. “Before I came [to the United States], I could never imagine myself working in advertising. Through college I rediscovered my passion for art and found a means to put it to good use — through advertising. I am grateful for the opportunities and tremendous support I have received at Lycoming.” Lycoming students collaborate with the El Naranjito community to identify and solve problems. And our collective, sustained efforts create an impact that is lasting — for the farmers and for our students. A lot of college classes talk about problems in the world. WE HELP FIX THEM. At Lycoming, experiential learning is different. The Warrior Coffee project isn’t a week-long trip that ends when students head to the airport. Fighting for what’s right. One cup at a time. www.lycoming.edu/coffee 9 www.lycoming.edu
