4 REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL EDUCATION CERTIFICATION PROGRAMS All items in a level must be met before a student can move on to the next level in the program. Aside from certification requirements set by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE), decisions regarding a student’s progression through the program are at the discretion of the Education department faculty. Level 1 – Preadmission to the Teacher Certification Program Complete Special Programs Form (Registrar’s Website – Student Forms) ENGL 106 or 107 - English Composition and PSY 110 – Introduction Psychology Obtain clearances and submit copies to the education department. Maintain yearly updates, as necessary. Understand that a cumulative 3.0 minimum GPA is needed for certification Satisfactory achievement on Teacher Candidate Evaluations Sign Lycoming College education department Statement of Understanding Complete a minimum of 48 credits Level 2 – Admission to the Teacher Certification Program (Following successful completion of Level 1 requirements and sophomore year) Achieve a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA. Under certain circumstances students will be admitted with a GPA that falls between 2.8-2.99. Students with a GPA less than 2.8 will not be formally admitted into the program. Satisfactory achievement on Teacher Candidate Evaluations Apply for and complete interview for entrance into Level 3 Acquire two recommendations from outside of the education department Begin preparing for PDE required teacher certification tests – you must pass these to be certified. Consult with your Education Advisor to determine the best time to take them. Be prepared to pay the $525 fee for EDUC 348 as part of the pre-student teaching semester Level 3 – Teacher Education Candidacy Achieve a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA. Level 4 – Teacher Certification 3.0 minimum GPA Successful completion of student teaching experience Instructional I Teacher Certification through TIMS (PDE website) Education exit process Final transcript sent to Mrs. Colleen Fox, Administrative Assistant Conferral of baccalaureate degree Certificate issued by PDE
