25 ESL PROGRAM SPECIALIST Students seeking certification to teach under the ESL Program Specialist certification should, as soon as possible, consult with the education department faculty and make their intentions known to their major department advisor so all requirements can be met before the Professional Student Teaching Semester. Please work closely with your major advisor and your education advisor to ensure that all required courses in both areas are completed. Requirements: A. Complete a Major and Initial Certification Program: Students must complete a major in one of the initial certification programs according to the requirements established by Lycoming College and the academic departments. B. Complete the ESL program specialist certification requirements. To be recommended for an ESL Program Specialist Certification, students must: Complete the Education Core [EDUC 215, 225, 348; SPLED 230 and 334; PSY 110 and 120; ENGL 106 or 107 and an ENGL literature; at least 6 credits of MATH numbered 101 or above]. Complete a specific certification area, including the Professional Semester, and an academic major. Complete the ESL Program Specialist courses (EDUC 225, ECED 243 OR EDUC 338; SPLED 331; MLS 338; EDUC 465) and a portfolio demonstrating the competencies have been met during relevant courses and field experience placements
